The instrument
Six domains, thirty statements, one 0–4 scale
Developed by Dr. Carolyn Gentle-Genitty, the GG-FSI asks about the past 30 days from the family’s own point of view. Each domain scores 0–100; the Family Stability Score is the average of the six. Six further statements make up the Family Stability Reserve™, a measure of the family’s ability to absorb disruption.
| # | Domain | Asks about… |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Economic Stability | Money for the basics |
| 2 | Housing, Environment & Mobility | A safe place and a way to get there |
| 3 | Health Stability | Feeling well and getting care |
| 4 | Caregiving & Routine Stability | Grown-ups we count on |
| 5 | Education & Developmental Stability | Learning and growing |
| 6 | Relational, Social & Community | People in our corner |
| Family Stability Reserve™ | Our backup power |

How it works
Register
Create your organization account and pay for a program by card or invoice. Add your practitioners as team members.
Create a program
Name the caseload or site (e.g. “Northside Family Support — 2026-27”). Everything you record lives under it.
Have the conversation
Talk with the family about the past 30 days and record their answers on any device, including the safety check, Action Map and your field notes.
Read the scores
Each record is scored instantly. Return for a follow-up and the family’s timeline shows what changed. The dashboard rolls everything up.
What practitioners see after each conversation
An illustrative family profile. Higher number = steadier ground.
Family Stability Score 74 · Watch · Reserve 63 · Cross-domain interaction: Moderate (2 domains below 70). Illustrative figures.
Research-use statement. GG-FSI™ Version 1.0 is being field-tested to establish clarity, feasibility, reliability, validity, fairness and usefulness. Scores are a planning signal and conversation guide, separate from any diagnosis, eligibility test or professional safety assessment. Do not use the numerical score by itself to determine child-protection action, service eligibility, school exclusion, healthcare access, housing eligibility or other high-stakes decisions.
